Sleepovers Rock! Who Knew!

Why is it easier to have three little kids running around than two? Wouldn’t you think it would necessitate one-third more effort required to keep them fed/pottied/entertained/alive?

As it turns out, no. Well, that’s the short answer.

We had our first sleepover last weekend! We watched Brandon from Saturday morning through Monday morning, and we were loathe to give him back. Why? It was close to effortless. Well, I DID have to snuggle one more youngster. You can imagine just how horrendous a job I found this to be.

All three kids played together, inventing games and scenarios ranging from dinosaur family conflicts to puppy triathalons (running! jumping! falling!), and everything in between. They made imaginary casseroles, measuring out cups of dry ingredients, before getting bored and just playing baby-dino-hide-and-seek in the enormous box filled with about 20 pounds of rice/beans/pasta. There was a dino wash later in the evening, following a viewing of the ever-popular movie Dinosaur wherein Brandon and Kelsey discussed the differences in dino species and commented on the fact that the dinosaur nest does, indeed, look like poop.

Feeding one more picky preschooler really doesn’t take any more effort. They barely eat anything as it is. Really, the only difficult aspect of the weekend was getting three kids ready to go anywhere. Three kids to chase, wrestle to the ground, and force to sit still as clothes/shoes are attached.

And, yeah, toilet-learning accidents DID happen, as we aren’t used to boys’ more frequent need to empty their bladders. Concurrent with the fact that Kelsey had some kind of aversion to going poop on the potty the entire weekend, meant that we were going through a whole lot of panties, trying to stay upbeat and not make anyone feel like he/she is being bad (the Kelsey-poop issue has since been resolved, thank the $gods and *knock* on wood).

And when Brandon’s dad came to retrieve his son, there were hugs and tears and promises to get together and do this again. Oh, and the kids were upset too.

In short, if last weekend were my yardstick against which to measure all sleepovers to follow– bring ‘em on!

I’m going to regret saying that, aren’t I?
Little sausages!
